In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization is the most advanced and successful procedure among the many conception options available at American Reproductive Centers. This procedure involves the fertilization of eggs with sperm outside of the uterus to create an embryo placed back inside the uterus. Typically, the created embryo(s) are grown and cultured in the lab for 3-5 days.

The Advantages of IVF include:

  • It can treat many causes of infertility including tubal blockage, problems with ovulation, problems with the way the sperm and egg interact, poor sperm quality or quantity, older patients, problems with the cervix, endometriosis, and recurrent pregnancy loss related to chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Lab-created embryos can be tested and diagnosed for inheritable diseases such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, and chromosomal abnormalities such as Down Syndrome and Turner Syndrome, ensuring the embryo’s health & viability prior to embryo transfer.
  • The highest success rate in achieving a pregnancy for couples. It also affords couples the option to store and freeze extra embryos that are created for future fertility.

Every IVF treatment plan is unique to our patients. For more information about In Vitro Fertilization, check out our FAQ.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a type of fertility treatment whereby many healthy sperm are placed directly into the uterus, allowing for easier travel to the fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg. Medications such as GONAL-F, Follistim or Clomid are commonly used to promote the development of numerous eggs. The success is higher with medicated cycles than with natural cycles.

BOARD-CERTIFIED AND EXPERIENCED REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGISTS ARE REQUIRED FOR THESE CYCLES TO LIMIT COMPLICATIONS.

IUI can be helpful for:

  • Couples experiencing infertility due to medical conditions (e.g., endometriosis or low sperm count or quality).
  • Couples with unexplained infertility.
  • Same-sex female couples using donor sperm.
  • Single women wishing to start a family with donor sperm.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing (PGT)

ARC can test your embryos for either chromosomal abnormalities (PGT-A) or Hereditary genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis or sickle cell (PGT-M)

PGT-A (Previously known as PGS)

Testing for abnormal number of chromosomes to allow for only normal embryos to transfer to the uterus. Normal embryos are referred to as Euploid.
– Screens for Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21)
– Klinefelter (47, XXY)
– Turner (45, X)

PGT-M (Previously Known as PGD)

Screen for specific inherited single gene defects like
– Cystic Fibrosis
– Sickle Cell
– Huntington Disease

Why Do We Use PGT?

PGT is used to diagnose genetic problems or chromosomal problems prior to implantation. The main benefits are:

  • Ensures that only healthy embryos are placed back into the uterus
  • To prevent high order multiples (triplets, quadruplets, etc.)
  • Decrease the birth rate of children with genetic diseases
  • Decreases miscarriages

In-House Egg Donation

Our egg donation program locates and screens egg donors who can provide healthy eggs for women who are unable to conceive due to advanced ovarian age, elevated FSH, multiple failed IVF attempts, or premature ovarian failure. Deciding to be a recipient of egg donation is an extremely rewarding and effective method of conception that allows you to be fully involved in the development of a child from the moment of his or her conception.

Advantages to Egg Donation Include:

  • The opportunity to experience all the wonders of motherhood from the very beginning that will allow you to create a lasting bond with your child.
  • Choice of the characteristics of the donor, allowing you to find an egg donor whose attributes are very similar to yours.
  • Providing the fetus an environment that you know and trust for its growth and nurture – your own body!
  • The possibility of multiple embryos that can be used in the future if you decide to have another child.

  • Understanding & preparing for the costs involved for the process.
  • Deciding whether to use your own egg and sperm or choosing a donor.
  • Choosing your level of involvement with your surrogate.

Male & Female Fertility Evaluation

There are many different reasons couples have trouble getting pregnant, what’s yours? ARC is here to help you understand your fertility issues. While our fertility work ups differ quite substantially, depending upon the history, past treatments and facts of each case, the goal is the same: to identify the best options for YOU on your road to parenthood.

Types of Testing We May Recommend:

  • Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS) – an excellent diagnostic tool for evaluating the uterine cavity (the inside of the uterus).
  • Semen Analysis – A simple, non-evasive test that can diagnose 15-25% of the causes of infertility
  • Fertility Potential Work-Up (Women) – a careful review of medical history combined with simple tests (FSH, AMH, & Ultrasound) can accurately predict a women’s fertility potential.
  • Ultrasound – Ultrasound images are capable of evaluating the health of your uterus, ovaries, and sometimes the fallopian tubes.
  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) – An HSG will help diagnose tubal blockages, uterine abnormalities, fibroids, polyps, and other abnormalities that can affect the outcome of pregnancy from occurring.

Elective Single Embryo Transfer (Fresh & Frozen)

elective Single Embryo Transfer (eSET) involves selecting one best embryo for transfer from a cohort of embryos and inserting it directly into the cavity of the uterus.

This single embryo may be chosen from a previous frozen cycle, or fresh cycle with multiple embryos. The remaining embryos can be safely frozen and used in future cycles. ARC advocates for elective single embryo transfer (eSET) especially if the embryos are tested for chromosomal abnormalities (PGT-A).
